Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Q: If I have
an emergency situation and the Public Works
Department is closed, who can I call for help?
A: If you have a Public Works related
emergency after hours, call the Police Department at
908-851-5000. The Police Department will take your
information and contact the Public Works Duty
Supervisor at home. There is a Public Works Duty
Supervisor on call 24 hours a day, seven days a
week.
Q: What should I do if I see graffiti on a city
building?
A: If you see graffiti on a township
building, please contact the Public Works Department

Q: Who should I call if I find that a park rest room
has been vandalized?
A: If you find that a rest room in one of the
township's parks has been vandalized, please contact
the Public Works Department at 908-686-1922
Q: If there is a piece of playground equipment that
needs to be repaired, who should I contact?
A: The Buildings & Grounds Division
routinely inspects the playground equipment in the
township parks and immediately makes any necessary
repairs. If you spot a piece of equipment that is in
need of repair, please contact the Public Works
Department at 908-686-1922
Q: What if my sewer backs up?
A: If you have a backup, call. Public Works
Department at 908-686-1922- during off operating
hours contact the Union Police Department at
908-851-5000.
Q: How do you determine which streets should be
resurfaced?
A: The Engineering and the Public Works
Department conduct a survey every five years in
which the condition of every street throughout the
Township is evaluated and rated. Using the data
collected during this survey, both Departments
determine which streets should be resurfaced and
prioritizes the necessary work.
Q: Who do I contact to pick up a dead animal in the
street?
A: Please contact Animal Control at
908-851-5000.
Q: Who do I call about dead tree removal?
A: Please contact the Shade Tree division at
908-686-1922. If the tree has taken down power
lines, do not approach the area. Call the police at
908-851-5000 immediately. They will block off the
area and someone will contact power company to fix
the lines.
Q: Can I get my trees trimmed?
A: The Shade Tree division provides tree
trimming services for low or overhanging branches to
streets and sidewalks, please call 908-686-1922. DPW
does not provide tree trimming services on private
property.
Q: Can I get my street swept? Can I get my street
snow plowed?
A: The Public Works Department provides
street cleaning and snow plowing services for the
Township of Union. They can be reached 908-686-1922.
Q: Who do I call for permits for dumpsters and
handicapped parking?
A: Dumpster permits are issued by DPW,

Q: How can I get a new sign, such as a stop sign or
no parking sign, installed?
A: New regulatory sign installations must
first be reviewed by the Police Department traffic
division and the may require the township Council’s
approval. Contact the Division of Traffic
