About Public Works…The Township of Union Department of Public Works is located at 1 Swanstrom Place. We have a current staff of 75 employees and operate over 150 trucks including light and heavy equipment.
- The Road Division is responsible for maintenance of more than 130 miles of road surface within the municipality. Inclusive of this work is the patching of potholes; the repair of cracks and other surface irregularities; street resurfacing, and street sweeping.
- The Public Grounds Division maintains over 500 acres of parks and public properties – cutting grass, planting trees, and cultivating all shrubs and flowers.
- The Building Division must oversee the maintenance and repair of all municipally owned structures, exclusive of those under the auspices of the Police, Fire, Library, and the Board of Education. In addition, this Division assures that all playgrounds and attendant playground equipment is safely and properly maintained and upgraded.
- The Shade Tree Division is charged with the care of more than 50,000 trees located within the municipal right-of-way. Included in this care is trimming, planting, removal, and stump grinding.
- The Sewer Division is responsible for the maintenance of more than 80 miles of storm sewers, and 135 miles of sanitary sewers. Additionally, they must service 6 pumping stations, as well as nearly 3,000 catch basins.
- The Solid Waste Division assures the timely and proper collection of both disposable and recyclable materials, as well as the inspection and code enforcement of all properties and ordinances. This Division is also responsible for Grass and Leaf Collection.
The Transportation Division assumes responsibility for the maintenance of all trucks and equipment utilized by the Department. The Division also maintains and operates the Shuttle Service. |
