Shade Tree Division

The Shade Tree Division is responsible for the maintenance of all trees located within the Township right of way Duties of the Division include pruning, tree stump removal, and tree removal.

If you wish to have a Township trimmed or the condition evaluated, please contact the Department of Public Works at (908) 686-1922.

Private Trees 

The maintenance of trees located on private property are the responsibility of the homeowner. If you are unsure that a tree on your property is private, call the Dept. of Public Works to have an inspector make the proper determination.

Tree Planting 

The Township of Union offers free tree planting to residents upon request. Tree planting is twice a year, in the late spring and late fall. The Township selects the species each year based on recommendations of the nursery arborist. Homeowners are notified prior to planting, and arrangements are made to place the tree in a suitable area.
