The Division of Senior Citizens Activities provides information and referrals to senior citizens of Union, sixty or older. Identification cards required to obtain discounts, transportation and assistance in procuring social services, financial or medical aid are available.

The Senior Center, at 968 Bonnel Court, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. all year except holidays. It has facilities for group meetings, classrooms for adult education courses, a library, cable TV, recreation equipment and socialization. Areas are set up for club meetings, several of which are held between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The Senior Center has been designated as a Nutrition Site for the elderly. Well-balanced meals are served Monday through Friday (except on holidays). Reservations are required two days in advance by calling (908) 851-3293. For further information, call the department at (908) 851-5290.

Offered Senior Programs

RECREATION
For those who are interested and eligible the Township of Union offers the following activities at the Senior Center, line dancing, exercise, billiards, knitting, crocheting, quilting and a variety of card games.

MOVIES
The Senior Center has the ability to show video tapes and/or movies films upon request.

SOCIAL SERVICES
Individual assistance is available for those needing help with PAAD, Lifeline and Home Energy Assistance Program Applications.

Senior ID cards are issued and provided for residents.

Income Tax assistance is provided during Tax Season each year. Assistance is provided by appointment only.

BUS TRANSPORTATION
Daily Bus service to Pathmark, Shop-Rite, and Union Center. Bus trips to points of interest outside the city are available upon request of senior group coordinators.

NUTRITION, HEALTH AND EDUCATION
Hot lunches are enjoyed daily at the Senior Center for a suggested donation of $1.50

Hypertension and other health screenings are offered annually and monthly

SENIOR ORGANIZATIONS
In addition to the above, there are 19 clubs and senior organizations that provide their own programs such as: trips speakers, bowling, luncheons, picnics, and shows.

SPECIAL SERVICES
Medical Transport to and from doctors within Union. Also pre-admission testing and physical therapy at Union Hospital. (This service is for Union residents only. The service runs on Mondays and Wednesdays)
