About Joseph Florio

Presently
on his fifth consecutive term on the
Township Committee, Joseph Florio has served
two terms as mayor, last serving in
that capacity in 2005. A 40-year resident of
Union, Joe has a long history of service to
his community including as a member of the
Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and
co-chairman of the Study Commission for the
Board of Education Adult Advisory Committee.
Since being first elected to the Township
Committee in 1996, Joe's committee
assignments have included Commissioner of
Police, Fire, DPW, Recreation and Senior
Activities.
A
recipient of the 2003 UNICO Humanitarian
Award, Joe is also a member of the Knight's
of Columbus and the Columbian Italian
American Club of Union.
A strong advocate of youth recreation
programs,
Joe was involved for 10 years in the Union
Little League and was one of the original
founders of the current recreational
basketball program.
As
a member of the Township Committee, Mr.
Florio is proud of his leadership in
the funding and opening of the senior center,
the ground breaking for the new train
station and, as a strong supporter of public
safety, Florio lead in getting the most up
to date radio equipment for our police and
fire vehicles and state-of-the-art infrared
cameras for our fire department.
Mr. Florio's common sense approach to
dealing with the workings of local
government has resulted in a strong, viable
community, proud of its heritage and
confident in its future.
