Arts & Crafts for Tots

This free interactive one hour arts and crafts class is perfect for children who need a creative outlet. Tots must be accompanied by a participating adult for the duration of the class. Program registration is required. Space is limited to 12 participants.

Registration opens September 16. Tentative program start date is October 22.

Recreational Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities Program (R.O.I.D)

This grant funded program is to provide inclusive recreational activities such as art, music and gym activities between general education students and special needs students while building social skills in a variety of leisure settings. Registration is open. Space is limited to 16 total participants, first come first served basis.  

When: Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4pm to 5:30pm

3rd - 5th Grade: March 19th - May 9th           6th - 8th Grade: May 14th - June 20th

Free Skills Clinic Presented by Prodigy Jr. NBA 

This new offering will be a great opportunity for players to get back into basketball before the season begins.  The free clinic will be organized and taught by two local basketball legends: Anthony Avent and Sandy Pyonin.  Anthony, from Newark, played at Seton Hall and in the NBA.  Sandy is a well-known coach who has helped send more than thirty players to the NBA, including Kyrie Irving.  Advanced registration is required for this program.  Want even more preseason basketball?  Make Me a Prodigy Jr. NBA hosts weekly training on Sundays and will be operating an in-house league this Fall.

Boys & Girls Instructional Clinics

These clinics will focus on the fundamentals of basketball and basic gameplay.  Space is limited to 30 participants.

Boys Basketball League

This popular recreation league will once again be offered this year for boys in Grades 6-12.  Two divisions will be offered, one for middle school players and one for high school players.  The number of teams in each league will depend on interest and enrollment.  Volunteer parent coaches are desperately needed to help sustain this program.  NOTE: checks for this program should be made out to Union Basketball Leagues.

  • Time: Games will be held on Saturdays between 9:00am-5:00pm
  • Dates: Saturdays, Dec 7 through March 28 (some weeknights may be necessary during the playoffs).

Travel Basketball

We will be joining the JBA again for the 2019-2020 season.  Registrations will be accepted for boys and girls teams for 4th through 8th grade.  Registering for the tryout is free; those who make the team will owe a $200 team fee.  The travel season runs from December through March and consists of weekday and weekend games and practices.  Registration opens September 9.  Pending enrollment, tryouts will be scheduled for Sat Sept 28.  Coaches may begin preseason practices as early as late September.  Age groups may be combined as needed if there are not enough players or coaches.

Learn to Skate

In our fourth year at the Union Sports Arena, this workshop concentrates on beginner skills and techniques.  Space is limited to 24 participants.

Curriculum for Life

This discussion series was created by Raheem Orr, founder of the non-profit organization More Than a Sport.  Raheem is a former star Elizabeth High School football player who went on to play at Rutgers and in the NFL.  He will share his life experiences with attendees and will engage them in conversations on various topics, ranging from leadership to health and wellness to financial responsibility.  The program is targeted towards aspiring athletes, however, everybody will be able to get something out of it.  Space is limited to 24 participants.

Super Science Mash-Up

This exciting and educational program presented by Explore Science will feature a different STEM-themed project or challenge each week.  Space is limited to 12 participants.

National CSI Camp

This unique program was created by Sean Clancy, a former detective and SWAT team member from Atlantic County.  The class will teach participants some of the basics of crime scene processing and evidence collecting, such as interviewing suspects and lifting fingerprints.  Space is limited to 20 participants.

What’s Out There Planetarium Program

This educational program will feature a curriculum designed by Union resident Matthew Meyer that combines an indoor inflatable planetarium with lessons and activities related to the stars and planets.  A number of different themes will be covered, such as the phases of the moon and star constellations.  Space is limited to 18 participants.

LEGO Workshops

Play-Well Teknologies will once again be offering their popular themed STEM workshops featuring LEGOs.  The curriculum includes various building challenges that will encourage the children to work together and problem solve.  Space is limited to 16 participants per session.
