Virtual Science Camp with Explore Science

  • Age Group: Entering Grades 4th-7th, Max of 20, Min of 6
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 20-24, 10:30-11:15am
  • Cost: $100
  • This virtual program will provide STEM challenges and experiments for students to do at home while video conferencing with the instructor. Each session will include a pre-recorded instructional video, a live Q&A, time for the children to show classmates and the instructor their completed project. The instructor will also follow-up by email after the session to expand on the live lesson. A kit of supplies will be provided, details on picking up your supplies will be provided closer to the program start date. This virtual program will be hosted via video conferencing software so an internet connection as well as a compatible computer/tablet will be required, with camera and audio enabled.

Child & Guardian Virtual Science Camp with Explore Science

  •  Age Group: Entering Grades 1st-3rd, Max of 20, Min of 6
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 20-24, 6:00-6:45pm
  • Cost: $100
  • This virtual program will provide STEM challenges and experiments for younger students and their guardian to do at home while video conferencing with the instructor. Each session will include a pre-recorded instructional video, a live Q&A, time for the children to show classmates and the instructor their completed project. The instructor will also follow-up by email after the session to expand on the live lesson. Each child must be accompanied by a guardian who will assist them with connecting to the instructor and with the project. The guardian must be 18 or older but does not need to be a parent (i.e. babysitter, grandparent, older sibling). This program, adapted for younger students, will include simpler projects and a shorter live component than for the older students. A kit of supplies will be provided, details on picking up your supplies will be provided closer to the program start date. This virtual program will be hosted via video conferencing software so an internet connection as well as a compatible computer/tablet will be required, with camera and audio enabled.

Junior Zoo Drawing Workshop with Young Rembrandts

  • Age Group: Entering Grades K-2nd, Max of 10, Min of 4
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 13-17, 10:00-11:30am
  • Cost: $50
  • This virtual program, taught by a local Young Rembrandts instructor, will teach students how to draw by breaking down complex objects into foundational shapes and lines. This workshop gives students the chance to draw different animals and things we see at the zoo! Llamas, lions, monkeys and more will fill our drawings. The last day will conclude with one large scene including all the animals from the week in a clever and cute imaginary zoo. Drawing classes can help children develop fine motor skills and embrace their inner creativity which may ultimately help improve their academic performance. Pastel Drawing Workshop “Colorful Critters of the Sky and Sea” with Young Rembrandts

  • This virtual program, taught by a local Young Rembrandts instructor, will challenge creative children to learn how to use pastels. Students will learn pastel drawing and texturing techniques to illustrate whimsical bees, a fanciful army of frogs, a striking owl and more artistic critters filled with detail. Drawing classes can help children develop fine motor skills and embrace their inner creativity which may ultimately help improve their academic performance. Cartoon Drawing Workshop “Monsters, Creatures and Creeps” with Young Rembrandts

  • This virtual program taught by a local Young Rembrandts instructor, will teach students how to draw amazing cartoon characters with humorous expressions and animated poses. If your child is a fan of creepy, crawly monsters, this summer art workshop is the perfect fit. Over the course of five days, your child will learn to draw and cartoon a variety of characters and even complete a large composition using pastels. They will learn to draw monsters of all shapes, sizes and colors. Drawing classes can help children develop fine motor skills and embrace their inner creativity which may ultimately help improve their academic performance. Learn to Play Chess with Ivette Garcia

  • Age Group: Entering Grades 1st-6th, Max of 8, Min of 4
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 6-17 (two weeks), 9:00-10:30am
  • Cost: $100
  • This virtual program, taught by International Master chess player Ivette Garcia, will teach students the fundamentals of playing one of the world’s oldest and most well-known games. Playing chess requires children to problem solve, critically think and concentrate – skills that can benefit them in the classroom and later in life. A list of easily accessible supplies (i.e. paper and pencils to take notes) will be provided before the program begins. A boxed chess game will be included with each registration, details on picking up your game will be provided closer to the program start date. This virtual program will be hosted via video conferencing software so an internet connection as well as a compatible computer/tablet will be required, with camera and audio enabled.

Be the Game Designer using Scratch MIT with Built by Me

  • Age Group: Entering Grades 3rd-5th, Max of 5, Min of 3
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 13-17, 10:00am-12:00pm
  • Cost: $100
  • This virtual program, hosted by STEM learning company Built by Me, will introduce students to video game coding. Students will work with a live instructor learn how to code and create simple games using Scratch MIT, a block-based coding language developed by MIT. Students will learn to build a new and different game or program every day, while learning about various game mechanics and being introduced to computational thinking. The small class size will promote socialization amongst the students and will allow the instructor to closely monitor each student’s progress. Built by Me recommends that students have a copy of the book titled “Coding Games in Scratch” by Jon Woodcock to refer to during and after the program; the book is available on Amazon but is not included in the program cost. This virtual program will be hosted via video conferencing software so an internet connection as well as a compatible computer/Chromebook will be required, with camera and audio enabled.

Web Development with Built by Me

  • Age Group: Entering Grades 5th-8th, Max of 5, Min of 3
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 6-10, 1:00-3:00pm
  • Cost: $100
  • This virtual program, hosted by STEM learning company Built by Me, will introduce students to web development taught by a live instructor. This class will teach the young web developers how to write code and build programs using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build their first websites, web-based apps and games. These are real-life coding skills that the students will use in all kinds of future programming. Each day the young web engineers will complete a new project that builds on the skills they have learned. The small class size will promote socialization amongst the students and will allow the instructor to closely monitor each student’s progress. Built by Me recommends that students have a copy of the book titled “Get Coding!” by Young Rewired State to refer to during and after the program; the book is available on Amazon but is not included in the program cost. Students registering for this class should have previous coding knowledge of languages like Scratch, Python, etc. This virtual program will be hosted via video conferencing software so an internet connection as well as a compatible computer/Chromebook will be required, with camera and audio enabled.

CSI: Virtual with National CSI Camp

  • Age Group: Entering Grades 6th-12th, Max of 12, Min of 6
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, July 27-31, 10:00-11:30am
  • Cost: $50
  • This virtual program, hosted by National CSI Camp, will teach students the basics of crime scene investigation and forensic science. The program has been designed by, and will be taught by, current and former law enforcement officers. The instructor will guide the children through a curriculum that includes a combination of PowerPoint lectures, labs, drills and exercises that the students can do at home. Students will learn various skills like interviewing a suspect, conducting a contact trace, lifting fingerprints and much more! A kit of supplies will be provided, details on picking up your supplies will be provided closer to the program start date. “Dragons: Return of the Ice Sorceress” Video Party with ScienceTellers

  • Age Group: Entering Grades K-2nd
  • Schedule: Thursday, July 2 from 5:00-6:00pm
  • Cost: $5 (the whole family can watch the video party on one computer but each registration includes just one invite and login for the video party)
  • This virtual video party will be an interactive event for children to watch one of ScienceTellers’ newest videos while interacting with the host. This new show, titled “Dragons: Return of the Ice Sorceress,” is about two brave villagers from a faraway world who go on a daring journey to release the dragons and save the entire kingdom from the evil ice sorceress.  Throughout this fantasy story, the ScienceTellers explore the science of matter with dry Ice, fog, bubbles, flying rockets and more! Families that have multiple children only need to register and the children can watch together on the same computer; if you would like to have each child participate separately you would need to register them separately. This virtual video party will be hosted via video conferencing software so an internet connection as well as a compatible computer/tablet will be required, with camera and audio enabled.
