Board of Adjustment Meetings

    The Zoning Board of Adjustment reviews all applications for relief from provisions of the zoning ordinance. The Board's principal duties are to hear appeals, grant variances, and rule on "use" applications. The Zoning Board is compromised of seven regular members and two alternates appointed by the Township Committee. The board reviews subdivisions and site plans with variances.

Drug Alliance Meetings

    The Municipal Drug Alliance was established nearly 17 years ago through a national drug and alcohol free grant. At first, the Alliance was a small group of businesses and citizens that launched a small series of pilot programs for all age levels. The programs were designed to get out the message of being a drug and alcohol free community while bringing the community together through educational and recreational events. Today, the Alliance is a staple in the township's community. The Alliance now consists of several citizens, local businesses, elected and appointed officials, and local government agencies.

Township Committee Meetings

    Union operates under a "Township" form of government, consisting of 5 members of a Township Committee, elected at-large for staggered 3-year terms. Elections are held annually. The Township Committee members also act as liaisons to the various departments of the municipal government. The Township Committee elects from its members the Mayor for a 1-year term. The Mayor, in addition to voting as a member of the Township Committee, presides over the meetings of the committee and carries out ceremonial duties. The Mayor can be reached at (908) 851-8500.

What black baseball in America meant, including pioneers like Jackie Robinson and the rich relationships in “Blackball” during America’s era of segregation, across the nation and in New Jersey is a multifaceted narrative. During this session, a robust conversation, an account by veteran Negro Leaguer Jim Robinson, a rendition of an iconic baseball poem “KC at the Bat” by its author, Kevin Kane, and selections from the documentary “Before You Can Say Jackie Robinson” will further participants’ understanding.
